Where is the Literacy Council located? The Literacy Council of Williamson County  is located at 129 West Fowlkes Street in Franklin.  (next to the Carter House Museum). Click here to see a map and directions
Where do I take the test? 225 Noah Drive in Franklin
When can I start taking classes? You may start classes after taking an Initial Assessment Test.
What is a preliminary test and when is the test given? This test determines reading and math grade levels.  It is given on Tuesday (4:00) and Wednesday (8:00 AM). An appointment is required. Contact Rita Dozier at 615-472-5010 or Jody Kammerud at 615-472-4075.
How long does the preliminary test take? The preliminary test takes 3 hours.
How do I sign up to take a practice test? After the Initial Assessment Test, you make an appointment to take a Practice Test.
When can I take the GED exam? The GED Exam is given monthly (see below).  It is recommended that you receive a grade of 500 or greater on the Practice Test first.
How do I register to take the GED Exam? Contact Rita Dozier at 615-472-5010.  A state issued photo I.D. is required.
How much does it cost to take the GED Exam? $55.00
What Grade do I need to pass the GED Exam? A total test score of 2250 is required, with no individual subject score below 410.
What happens if I do not pass the first time? Study and take the test again.  Each Retest is $11.00 per subject
How many times can I retake the GED exam? 3 times per year
Do I have to take the entire exam or can I take it in parts? You may take the exam in parts, but  results will not be given until all 5 parts are taken.
How old do I have to be to attend GED classes and take the GED Exam? You must be 18 years old. However, you can be 17 and take the exam with parental, school, and Director of Schools recommendation.
Do I need to attend a class, or can I work one-on-one with a tutor? Attend classes.  Tutors are available on a limited basis.
Can I join a class at any time? Yes.  Classes are open enrollment.
Are classes held during the summer? Yes.
Will I need to buy books and materials? No.
Do I need to bring anything with me to the test? No.  Only your I.D. - Nothing else is allowed in the test area. No purses, bags, backpacks or cell phones.  You may bring snacks and a lunch, but leave them in the car.

Remember: You must take the Official Practice Test (OPT) first. Pre-Registration is required for both the Practice Test and the GED Test.  Please allow a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the testing date to register.  Space is limited so register early!  A state issued photo I.D. is required.  Some test sites have specific requirements.  Call Rita Dozier or Maureen Hackett for details: 472-5010.
